Autonomous Surveying Boat

چکیده
The fresh water reservoirs are one of the main power resources of Pakistan. These water reservoirs are in the form of Tarbela Dam, Mangla Dam, Bhasha Dam, Warsak Dam etc.[1]. To estimate the current power capability of the Dams, the statistical information about the water in the dam has to be clear. For the purpose of water management monthly or yearly survey of the dams required. One of the important parameter is to find the water level of the water, which can help us in finding the pressure and flow of water in dams. The existing surveying systems have some problems, i.e., risky, errors in measurement and sometimesexpensive. Our project has tried a lot to overcome these flaws and to develop more economical, safe and accurate system for finding depth values of dams and ponds. The key purpose of Our Project “Autonomous Surveying Boat” is to have it log water depths along a predefined set of waypoints. The Autonomous Surveying Boat float in water according to pre-defined path, getting the coordinates from GPS Sensor and direction is controlled by using Magnetometer (compass) Sensor. It stores its data on SD card as a text file for later readings. The boat can also be used to find the average capacity of the dam. The average depth is calculated from the measured depth values at different set points of the dam. The actual length of the dam is determined by the magnetometer. The numbers of surveys over the time can help us in finding the silting ratio in dams. For square dams the length and width of the damare measured and the average depth, then using these three parameters we can estimate the average capacity of the dam [2]. The boat is scalable for furthered modification if needed.

Mapping Ocean Outfall Plumes and their Mixing using Autonomous Underwater Vehicles
This paper reports on our experiences developing methods to survey an ocean outfall discharge plume using an Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV). . The mobility of an AUV provides a significant advantage in surveying discharge plumes over traditional boat-based methods, and when combined with optical and oceanographic sensors, provides a capability for both detecting plumes and assessing their ...
متن کاملAutonomous river navigation
Existing maritime navigation and reconnaissance systems require man-in-the-loop situation awareness for obstacle avoidance, area survey analysis, threat assessment, and mission re-planning. We have developed a boat with fully autonomous navigation, surveillance, and reactive behaviors. Autonomous water navigation is achieved with no prior maps or other data – the water surface, riverbanks obsta...

The purpose of this study was to investigate novel methods on an unmanned sailing boat, which enables it to sail fully autonomously, navigate safely, and perform long-term missions. The author used robotic sailing boat prototypes for field experiments as his main research method. Two robotic sailing boats have been developed especially for this purpose. A compact software model of a sailing boa...
متن کاملLow Cost UAV-based Remote Sensing for Autonomous Wildlife Monitoring
In recent years, developments in unmanned aerial vehicles, lightweight on-board computers, and low-cost thermal imaging sensors offer a new opportunity for wildlife monitoring. In contrast with traditional methods now surveying endangered species to obtain population and location has become more cost-effective and least time-consuming. In this paper, a low-cost UAV-based remote sensing platform...
متن کاملProject for an Autonomous Model Helicopter Navigation System
In this paper we present the first part of a potential project aimed at the development of an autonomous model helicopter. Such vehicle will be used for land photogrammetric surveying, for documentation of archeological sites, for detection of polluted areas at sea and for many other situations where remote surveying is a definite advantage due to accessibility. Upon checking other projects in ...
